The Practice

Tala Klinck Architect, LLC (TKA) is a design practice specializing in architecture, interior design and design collaboration. The practice aims to create elegant, efficient and sustainable design solutions as we draw inspiration from art, nature and the people with whom we work.

A core of the practice includes adaptive re-use; designing renovations and additions to existing buildings. Solutions typically embrace modern design and functionality while also considering how to best honor and respect the history of an existing place and its architecture when warranted.

Each project is approached as an opportunity to assemble a team of people excited to work together. Clients and builders are collaborators and, together, our shared vision and dedication shape both the design process and the completed work.

The practice is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Principal

Tala is a registered architect, interior designer and design consultant with over 18 years of experience working locally, nationally and internationally on projects ranging from high end residential interiors to complex institutional buildings. Projects have included both new construction and complicated additions and renovations at every scale. In addition to her experience as an architect, she is certified in Lean project management and enjoys working with builders and owners to design workflows and systems that help projects of all sizes move forward smoothly.

Tala received her M.Arch from Harvard University and In 2002 and was the recipient of the SOM fellowship for Interior Architecture which led her to Japan to research use of textiles in architecture and witness collaboration efforts between Japanese textile artists, engineers and architects. She remained in Japan for a year working with Pritzker Prize winning architect Fumihiko Maki and soaking up Japanese design and culture. Tala continues to be inspired by collaboration between design disciplines and material research.

Prior to her architectural education, Tala received a B.A from Skidmore College where she studied art and art/architectural history. Long hours in the metalsmithing studio during college fueled her love for finely crafting details and her background as a dancer influenced her passion for considering how people move through and interact with one another and their physical environment.

In addition to practicing architecture, Tala stays in touch with the act of making through pottery. She also enjoys exploring the world and soaking up natural beauty by hiking, skiing and kayaking. She is a member of the USSA and volunteers as a XC ski coach for a local youth club in the winter. In the warmer months she swims and paddles as a Level 2 Kayak Trip Leader.
